Review
My True Love is my first read from author Melissa Foster and the second book in the Steeles and Silver Island series.
What I loved:
Complicated hero is my jam, and Grant Silver is all sorts of complicated. Veteran, back in his hometown after a career-ending injury and no idea what to do next with his life. Grant is everything I love in a hero, broody, alpha, maybe needs a little saving himself.
I very much like the heroine, Jules, but she is very in your face, blinding sunshine. When you read the story, you will understand what has shaped her personality this way, but she is super optimistic.
It’s a small-town romance which is always a favorite trope of mine, and you can’t go wrong there.
What I didn’t love:
In the first chapter, you get blasted with tons of information about their families, which are both HUGE. It was information overload, and I had to put the book down and come back multiple times. I’m all for giving me the backstory, but we don’t need the family tree in the first six pages. I’m reading about the story between the h/H, and while secondary characters are essential, lets spread it out, please.
Overall:
I thought this story was good, but I wasn’t taken over by it. Is it a good book that I think readers will love? Yes. Did it wow me? No. Do I think you should give it a try? Absolutely! And then you should tell me what you thought too!
