Review
My favorite thing is taking a chance on a new to me author and loving their book. His Holiday Crush by Cari Z was a perfect M/M holiday romance.
What I loved:
The brother’s best friend trope.
Usually, I am not a fan of this trope. Maybe because it feels super overdone in M/F books? Perhaps because it always seems to go the same way? I can’t pinpoint it, but for His Holiday Crush, it works.
Of course, the main characters.
Max and Dominic are so fantastic together. Their characters are well written and relatable. Max, who is best friends with Dominic’s older brother Hal, visits his hometown after ten years. Dominic is now a police officer, and when Max sees him for the first time, he doesn’t even recognize him.
The two have a playful, witty flirtation that doesn’t lose heat even after Max realizes who Dominic is.
The slow burn, because it’s so worth it.
There is a bit of a slow burn in this book, but it’s worth it. It’s the right kind of slow burn that has you begging for more but not entirely wanting it to be over yet.
Overall.
I adored this book. I love a good holiday romance, and His Holiday Crush was a perfect read for my Sunday wrapped up on the couch. It made me smile, made me cry, and warmed me all over.
