Review
Ridden Hard was my first read from author Kim Loraine.
Again, I hate writing reviews when I didn’t love the book, but such is the world. I loved the idea of this book, it’s right up my favorite trope alley, but it missed the mark. This book is part of a series, but I don’t believe reading the other books affected my decisions. You can absolutely read this as a standalone, so that wasn’t a factor.
For me, it was simple; nothing stood out as unique. As I’ve said before, in the big scheme of things, all romances are the same. Boy and girl meet, there’s a climax, and then there’s a HEA. Whether it’s a small town, surprise baby, friends to lovers, etc., the trope may be different but what we are getting in the end never changes. So the author has to do something that makes their work stand out, and Ridden Hard didn’t do that for me. The writing was fine; the idea was fair; I was bored.
Remember, just because it didn’t check all my boxes doesn’t mean it won’t check yours!
