First impression? Squee, smooshy, gooey, lurrrrrrve.
That was me trying to put my emotions into words, but mostly I just adored Only One Kiss.
What I loved-
The hero’s name is Ralph. I know, I know, that seems like a silly thing for me to love. I mean, nowadays, who names a big, hunky, hockey player hero Ralph? Natasha Madison does, that’s who, and I flipping LOVE it. Plus, Ralph is just so darn adorable I can hardly stand it. I might have a bit of a soft spot for guys with “little old man” names.
The meet-cute is perfection. Ralph and Candance meeting for the first time and pretty much every time after, made me literally aw and giggle out loud.
What I didn’t love-
I’m probably gonna get some lip for this, but the big epic climax? The moment everything blows up before it gets put back together? Well, I thought that she overreacted. I might have maybe rolled my eyes.
I get being upset, but she gets like life-altering upset. If you are going to have this big moment that the heroine upends her life to get away from this guy, he better do something worth the upending. But what blows my mind is when the two come back together to have their “having it out” scene, he’s like, okay, you’re right, and walks out! Then two pages later run back in to say, oh no, wait, I will give you everything you want. I was like huh? He’s there to tell her he wants to be with her; why in the world would he leave for two seconds and then run back in to say he was wrong. He already knows he’s wrong, thats why he was there in the first place!
Overall-
I was all over giving this book 5 stars until the weirdness of the ending, but it’s a solid 4. Solid enough I want to read the next book in the series. Crossing my fingers for a better climax.
