I like to think I am very open-minded when I read romance. From sweet and clean (though that’s not my favorite) to dark erotica and everything in between, I’ll take any sub-genre. So when Jayce Carter reached out to me to read her debut novel, Owned by the Alphas, I surprised myself by being a bit timid. I don’t usually read paranormal romance because I am pretty picky. I think it’s a hard genre to lock down creatively and come out with something that doesn’t seem kitschy. This book is also a reverse harem. I’ve never read regular haram forget about reverse harem, but the blurb intrigued me, so I decided to jump in feet first. My first impression was that it doesn’t read like a debut novel. Jayce has a clear voice, and with there being four main characters, she does an excellent job of keeping them defined. Also, the storyline is engaging. Her heroine is strong and independent; three virile men do not easily steamroll her. I love how different all three alphas were but how they made sense together as a unit. Each had their place in the relationship, and it made the group dynamic work instead of seeming like someone was always out of place. Now here’s my disclaimer, this book is steamy. Like, extra spicy, make sure you aren’t in public arousing. Who knew three super alpha, well, alphas could get me hot? Not me, I didn’t know! Hell, I hadn’t read harem anything, forget reverse harem, until this book. I’ve been missing out! Jacey Carter brings the primal to the forefront and doesn’t back down from raw passion. I’m still fanning myself.
