How I adore a well-written enemies to lovers trope! In Becca Steele’s debut you novel The Truce, she gives us the story of known workplace adversaries Luke and Olivia. Not only do Luke and Olivia work together, but their best friends are married to each other. So it seems no matter where they turn there the other is. The already boiling attraction between the two starts to spill over when Luke and Olivia’s boss demands a truce between them. I instantly fell for the banter between Luke and Olivia. Becca did a fantastic job with witty humor between the two. Would I have loved to see the enemies part of the trope pushed maybe just a little longer with possibly a good hate shag to get things started? Sure! But that’s just a personal preference that I have. During the conflict, Luke’s issues get in the way of what he and Olivia have, and Olivia started to grate on my nerves. She comes across a bit like a needy teenager at times. The friend seems to be in the middle of the conflict more than he probably had to, running between the two, again as teenagers would do. I enjoyed Becca’s debut novel as a whole and overall she did a great a job. I am excited to see what she has up next for us in this series.
