Brittanys Review
Writing Style Rating: π
UGH, flashbacks! I was not a fan of this. The book is split into two parts. Part one is the heroines POV and part two is the hero. That didn’t bother me, but the chapters jump between 1993 and 1995, I hated this.
Storyline Rating: πππππ
I truly loved the story between Gabriel and Carrie. It was a beautiful and heartbreaking second chance romance. Two souls torn apart before they could ever really get started.
Hero: ππππ
Gabriel is a kind and sweet soul. He is instantly smitten with the beautiful Carrie.
Heroine : ππππ
Carrie is strong yet quiet. Though she is rich and seen by others as a princess that is not at all how she see’s herself. She is humble in her beauty.
Chemistry between h/H: ππππ
The innocence of how Gabriel and Carrie’s relationship starts there isn’t an overwhelming sexual chemistry but more a pull of two people meant to be together. Lots of feels.
Smut Factor: ππ
It’s hard for me with books that have an abuse trigger to give a true smut factor. I never want it to seem like I am giving a sexy rating to the abuse scenes. With that in mind, the scenes between Gabriel and Carrie are hot and heavy.
Overall Thoughts: ππππ
I enjoyed the story CD Reiss gave us in Pretty Scars, but because of my dislike for flashbacks it wasn’t all I thought it could be. I would have preferred if she would have made part one all the 1993 chapters and then part two flash forward to 1995. With that being said Gabriel and Carrie’s story wouldn’t be denied and pushed past my irritation with the flashbacks.

βA gripping, sensual and darkly romantic masterpiece.”– Frolic

About CD Reiss
CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels. She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.
